Theatergoers filled Martinson Hall at The Public Theater on June 4 as the world premiere of Girl, Interrupted took the stage. The new play with music draws from the popular memoir that inspired a well-known film.
Juliana Canfield stars as Susanna. King Princess makes her theatrical debut portraying Lisa in this 110-minute show that runs without an intermission.
Playbill released a video montage showcasing scenes from the opening night performance shortly after the curtain fell.
Martyna Majok, the Pulitzer Prize winner, adapted the material for the stage. Two-time Grammy winner Aimee Mann provided the original music for the production.
Jo Bonney serves as director. Sonya Tayeh created the choreography that accompanies the musical elements.
"World premiere play-with-music Girl, Interrupted officially opens Off-Broadway at the Public's Martinson Hall June 4, and Playbill has a new montage of clips," said Logan Culwell-Block, a writer for Playbill.
The production began with first previews on May 13. It has since extended its engagement through July 12 at the downtown venue.
