Krysta Rodriguez steps into the role of Roxie Hart in Broadway's Chicago on June 15.
She begins performances at the Ambassador Theatre, taking over from Rachel Schur. The casting was announced May 20, 2026, through Playbill and Broadway.com reports.
The revival first opened November 14, 1996. It stands as the second-longest-running show in Broadway history after the closed production of The Phantom of the Opera.
More than 33 million people have seen the musical worldwide. The production continues its extended run with no announced closing date.
Rodriguez most recently appeared on Broadway in the musical adaptation of Smash. Her earlier stage credits include Into the Woods, Spring Awakening, The Addams Family, and In the Heights.
She described the opportunity in direct terms. "I am honored to be taking over in Chicago," Krysta Rodriguez said.
Producers highlighted her vocal and comedic strengths as a fit for the jazz-age character. The role requires delivering signature numbers including "Roxie" and "Nowadays."
Chicago centers on murder, media fame, and corruption in 1920s Chicago. The Kander and Ebb score and Fosse choreography have remained central to the revival's appeal across three decades.
Instagram posts from BroadwayWorld and the official Chicago account shared the news with fans. The announcements included photos of Rodriguez alongside production imagery.
The Ambassador Theatre has housed the show since its 1996 debut. Ticket sales have remained steady through periodic cast rotations that keep the production fresh for repeat visitors.
Rodriguez joins a lineage of performers who have played Roxie in the revival. Each new actor brings individual interpretation while preserving the musical's core structure and staging.
No performance schedule changes were reported for other principal roles. The production maintains its standard eight-show weekly calendar at the 1,114-seat venue.
