Mary-Mitchell Campbell prepares to accept Broadway's recognition for her extensive advocacy work in the arts.
The in-demand music director will receive the 2026 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall.
Campbell founded Arts Ignite, formerly known as ASTEP, in 2006 to deliver arts education programs worldwide.
The nonprofit has reached approximately 45,000 young people in the United States, Africa, India and additional countries.
She described the organization's reach during a recent conversation.
"We've reached about 45,000 young people at Arts Ignite and that's been a major impact in the U.S., Africa and India primarily, but other countries as well," Campbell said.
Campbell serves as music director for New York City Center’s Encores! series and won a Grammy Award for the cast album of Some Like It Hot.
The Isabelle Stevenson Award specifically honors her humanitarian contributions alongside her theater career.
Campbell recalled watching the Tony Awards throughout her life and what this particular honor represents to her.
"I grew up watching the Tonys. It's like our Super Bowl... this Tony is so special because it's about advocacy," she said.
The award was announced on April 29, 2026, and will be presented during the ceremony at the landmark New York venue.
Her dual focus on Broadway productions and global arts initiatives continues to define her professional path in the industry.
