The Tony-nominated musical Death Becomes Her will conclude its Broadway run with a final performance on June 28, 2026.
The production has completed more than 650 performances during its 20-month engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. It sold roughly 900,000 tickets during that period.
Despite the attendance figures, the show did not recoup its $31.5 million capitalization. Reports from Variety and Deadline both confirmed the closing date and the production's financial outcome.
Lowe Cunningham, SVP, Head of Creative & Strategy at Universal Theatrical Group, addressed the run in a statement. "Bringing ‘Death Becomes Her’ to Broadway has been an incredible joy, and we are immensely proud of every artist, musician, crew member, and individual who helped make this show what it is. Night after night, it has been a thrill to watch audiences come together to laugh, celebrate, and embrace the wildly entertaining spirit of this production. We are deeply proud of what this show has brought into the world, and we are excited for its life to continue as it tours across the U.S. and beyond in the years ahead."
The production received 10 Tony Award nominations during its Broadway tenure. The show opened in November 2024 and played to consistent audiences at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
A North American tour begins September 12, 2026, at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio. The official site deathbecomesher.com lists the closing performance and tour launch dates.
Broadway accounts have shared the Variety and Deadline reports, prompting discussion about production costs and the timing of the closure.
