Major record labels are directing heavy investment toward South Asian musicians who are gaining traction across the United States.
Warner Music Group, which holds about 17 percent of the U.S. market share in the first quarter of 2026, revealed the launch of 5 Junction on May 30, 2026. The new label operates as a joint venture with Anjula Acharia and has already signed singer Rhea Raj along with Nora Fatehi.
Global music revenues reached a record exceeding 30 billion dollars in 2025, according to IFPI data. Indian artists have seen international streams on Spotify increase by more than 2,000 percent between 2019 and 2023, with nearly half of their 2024 royalties coming from outside India.
5 Junction plans to develop global audiences by encouraging collaborations across genres and emphasizing live events. This strategy comes as South Asian performers such as Diljit Dosanjh achieve sold-out concerts in American venues.
"That sounded crazy, to think we were 20 years too early, but now, 20 years later, with the explosion of people like Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla ... there's all these South Asian acts that are coming here and really selling out, particularly in the live arena," said Anjula Acharia, founder and CEO of 5 Junction.
Rhea Raj expressed optimism about the future. "We're seeing more artists at bigger festivals and at award shows, and I think the best of it's yet to come," the singer-songwriter noted.
The venture arrives amid broader label interest in the demographic. Streaming data shows consistent growth in international consumption of South Asian tracks, while live ticket sales demonstrate direct fan engagement in major U.S. markets. 5 Junction intends to pair recorded music releases with targeted touring to convert streaming listeners into sustained audiences.
Early signings reflect the label's focus on artists already blending South Asian influences with Western pop and electronic production. Raj and Fatehi both maintain existing fan bases that extend beyond traditional diaspora communities, positioning them for wider crossover potential.
Industry analysts note increasing opportunities for cross-cultural music projects that blend traditional elements with contemporary styles. This approach allows artists to reach diverse audiences while maintaining their cultural roots. The label aims to support long-term careers through strategic partnerships and innovative marketing campaigns focused on global expansion.
